Navman's Driver ID technology - allowing fleet managers to identify exactly who is driving a vehicle, where and at what time - has been launched for it's combined tracking and navigation system.
Integral Driver ID functionality is available now with the M-Nav 650, allowing multiple drivers to use the same vehicle, and managemwnt to keep a check on how many hours they are driving.
"This is the solution that offers an effective way of generating information that's compatible with the requirements of the Working Time Directive" says Tony Neill, Vice President EMEA at Navman Wireless Business Solutions. "What is more, it's available for no extra cost to the user."
When a driver gets into a vehicle he is automatically prompted, by the M-Nav or MDT unit, to enter a personal PIN. This allocates the driver to the vehicle.
The end user can then run a detailed driver report, in addition to a vehicle report, providing a greater level of clarity and insight into a company's fleet movement and efficiency.
"Driver ID ensures that managers have complete control over precisely which drivers are permitted to drive which fleet vehicles," says Tony.
"In addition, there are benefits from an accountability perspective. If an employee who had driven more than one company vehicle during a working day were to pick up a speeding ticket, the company could discover the driver responsible at the touch of a button, without the need to wade through manual records."
By employing the use of Driver ID pin numbers, as opposed to the swipe cards or Dallas keys required by similar telematic solutions, Navman is ensuring customers receive a valuable management tool without having to pay for any additional hardware.
The technology is provided with either manual or automatic log off functionality, negating the need for drivers to enter the pin number every time their vehicle ignition is turned off. An automatic log off, set to 30 minutes for example, would allow a driver to make a 10 minute delivery stop without having to log back in.
